Ingredients (Serves 4–6):

For the Dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 packet dry yeast

  • 1 cup warm water

  • 1 teaspoon sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

For Frying:

  • 1 cup Turna Sunflower Oil

For the Syrup:

  • 2 cups sugar

  • 1.5 cups water

  • 1 slice lemon

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough: Mix the warm water with sugar, add the dry yeast, and let it sit for 5 minutes. Then, add flour and salt, and knead into a soft dough. Cover and let it rise for 30 minutes.

  2. Prepare the Syrup: In a small pot, combine sugar and water and bring to a boil. Add the lemon slice and simmer for 5 more minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.

  3. Shape the Dough Balls: Take walnut-sized portions from the risen dough and roll them into balls.

  4. Fry the Dough Balls: Heat 1 cup Turna Sunflower Oil in a wide pan. Fry the dough balls until golden brown on all sides (about 2–3 minutes per side).

  5. Soak in Syrup: Immediately place the fried dough balls into the syrup for a few minutes to absorb the sweetness.

  6. Serve: Transfer the lokma to a serving plate. Optionally, sprinkle with chopped walnuts or cinnamon.

Enjoy!
