Ingredients (Serves 4–6):
For the Dough:
-
2 cups all-purpose flour
-
1 packet dry yeast
-
1 cup warm water
-
1 teaspoon sugar
-
1/2 teaspoon salt
For Frying:
-
1 cup Turna Sunflower Oil
For the Syrup:
-
2 cups sugar
-
1.5 cups water
-
1 slice lemon
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Dough: Mix the warm water with sugar, add the dry yeast, and let it sit for 5 minutes. Then, add flour and salt, and knead into a soft dough. Cover and let it rise for 30 minutes.
-
Prepare the Syrup: In a small pot, combine sugar and water and bring to a boil. Add the lemon slice and simmer for 5 more minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
-
Shape the Dough Balls: Take walnut-sized portions from the risen dough and roll them into balls.
-
Fry the Dough Balls: Heat 1 cup Turna Sunflower Oil in a wide pan. Fry the dough balls until golden brown on all sides (about 2–3 minutes per side).
-
Soak in Syrup: Immediately place the fried dough balls into the syrup for a few minutes to absorb the sweetness.
-
Serve: Transfer the lokma to a serving plate. Optionally, sprinkle with chopped walnuts or cinnamon.
Enjoy!
